Superintendent’s Message

District 29 definitely shines! Our official website www.D29 is intended to inform you of our emerging excellence. We rise and fall together as a learning community building each other up and for the past three years, we have seen strong improvements in student performance and reductions in school-related incidents. Our new building leaders have been vigorously supported by our veteran principals, and our active parents, who are all volunteers elected and unelected, have increased their collaboration.

Members of our Assistant Principal Advisory Group curate the content and manage the operations of D29Shines. They will regularly update the website with content intended to highlight the great work happening in District 29, showcase the schools in the district and provide resources and support to families and community members. Great work is taking place across all our schools and we intend to do a better job focusing on that.

As a new superintendent, I intend to vigorously build on the foundation laid by my predecessors. In District 29, we care deeply about our students, our families, and our faculty.  We intend to strengthen the instructional core by raising the instructional expectations and increasing the rigor in tasks and providing high-quality education to all students in grades K-12.   We will also purposefully implement strategies to promote positive school culture through social-emotional learning initiative.  We will continue to treat people with respect and dignity.

We are confident that we can compete successfully with any district in the city.  PS 176 The Cambria Heights School has consistently won trophies in Future Problem Solving competitions. IS 192 has been supreme in robotics. The wave of the future is STEM and we are using Magnet Grants and RESO A funding to actively engage our schools in increasing STEM programs. We will provide more details in upcoming editions.  Let’s make the coming school year our best yet!!

Best regards,

Superintendent Mitchell
